This article is the second on Pontardawe's junior golfers This time it's the turn of up and coming very talented youngster "Jac Rogers"

Jac was born in 2000 and lives in Pontardawe with his mum, dad, older brother Ashley and sister Lauren who all happen to be very keen golfers and members of Pontardawe Golf Club Jac’s father Phil is a seasoned golfer playing of a handicap of 8 his mother Nia plays of 36. Jac's 15 year old sister Lauren shows real potential having just started playing golf and she has already reduced her handicap to 33.

I've been lucky enough to play golf with Jac on regular basis and it's a pleasure to be on the golf course with him, apart from when he's winning money off me. He has a wicked sense of humour and constantly makes us laugh on the course. All jokes aside, he's a tall lad for his age and he hits the ball a country mile, with ease. His short game is pretty good now and with all the practicing and mentoring at the golf club his skills are improving all the time.

Jac is a very good all round sportsman and is a keen rugby player who plays for his school, Ysgol Gyfun Bryntawe. Jac also plays for his local rugby club Pontardawe RFC under 14’s and was good enough to be selected to play at county level for Swansea Valley. Another one of his sporting achievements is, he's a very accomplished skier.

Jac started playing golf at the age of 10, but over the last two years his passion and enthusiasm for the game of golf has really come to the forefront of his young sporting career. His game has gone from strength to strength and take it from he has become quite a formidable opponent to beat off his handicap.

Jac is a valued member of Pontardawe's very strong junior section which is run by Anne Evans and coached by golf professional Baden Jones. Jac always has time to help juniors younger than himself and pass on any tips he can.

Jac has won numerous competitions at Pontardawe Golf Club and in 2013 at the Welsh under 13's he achieved 3rd place in the nett competition. Last year his handicap reduced from 22 to 14. He was playing at team level for the 'Stones' at the age of 12 and was one of the main strengths of the team.

Jac enjoys the Sunday Diddly society and is winning the diddly on a regular basis beating full members playing off the yellow boxes throughout the winter.

Jac's father Phil believes that his progression in the game has been due to the support and help from his peers at Pontardawe Golf Club, by encouraging him to play golf at team level and also by playing in golf competitions at different clubs throughout England and Wales. This has resulted in many a success, with him now being part of the under 14's 'County Squad' and he has been selected to play in the forthcoming Junior European Championships in May 2014 in Scotland.

Jac tells me he is looking forward to the new season and competing in junior and full competitions and is striving to reduce his handicap to single figures this season and develop his game even further. His ambition is to play for the county team and ultimately play for his country !

Jac is becoming quite a character and it's not difficult to see why golfers enjoy his company, It's hard enough for us to win a pound off him now, we'll have little chance of that in the future !

Again Jac is a pleasure to be around and his family must be very proud of his infectious likeable personality and sporting achievements.

Well Done Jac !
