Pontardawe Golf Club are really proud to add yet another world class sportsman "John Hartson" to their already impressive list of celebrity guest speakers that have honoured the club with their presence over the years.

John will need little introduction to Pontardawe Golf Club , he is a local boy made good, whose sporting and charity fund raising achievements are legendary in Wales and across the world. A true ambassador for football and life in general.

As a youngster John represented Lonlas Boys' Club in Skewen playing his first match aged six, he joined Luton Town's Youth training Scheme at the age of sixteen

John became British football’s most expensive teenager when he moved from Luton to Arsenal for £2.5 million. He made over 500 appearances for clubs such as , Luton, Arsenal, West Ham, Wimbledon, Coventry, Celtic, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich, scoring over 200 goals along the way. John is one of only four players to score a hat-trick for the Welsh under 21's and was capped 51 times for Wales at senior level, scoring 14 international goals.

After successfully overcoming illness, John set up the "John Hartson Foundation" cancer charity to help raise money to support others affected by cancer. Men. Women. Children. Families. To say John is a fighter is an understatement. In 2013 Pontardawe Golf Club set up their first captains charity golf day to help Johns Foundation, it turned out to be huge fundraising success.

A quote about John by Gerraint Rowlands sums up our home grown hero.

"Johns life has come a long way from that wet and windy night in Luton and what a life it has been. High profile footballer, hell-raiser, gambling addict, the idol of football fans, family man, cancer survivor, charity organiser and fundraiser"

Pontardawe Golf club is really looking forward to a night with John Hartson as their guest speaker, it promises to be an interesting and thoroughly entertaining evening, definitely a night not to be missed.
