Another Huge Success Story

Saturday 30th of May 2015 20:33

We've done it again ! For the Fourth year running, due to Pontardawe Golf Clubs continued success, the club was in a position to be to offer a FREE golf open day on Sunday 25th May

Again that's not a misprint. There was no entry fee.

Nothing! Naada! Ziltch! Absolutely Free!

There were no shortage of guests wanting to play one of the finest golf courses in South Wales with nearly 300 golfers taking up the offer to play a round of golf at Pontardawe for free.

There was a very strong contingent of guest golfers from other clubs such as Pyle & Kenfig Palleg, Garnant, Neath, Carmarthen, Glyn Neath, Mond Valley, The Gower and Langland. It was a real pleasure to sit and listen to all the guests saying how much they had enjoyed their round of golf and how much they had enjoyed the relaxed friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse afterwards.

It goes to show the hard work that Jamie Probert and his team have been putting in over the last few years is coming to fruition. There were nothing but compliments from members of other clubs about the condition of the greens and course in general and that's all down to Pontardawe Golf Club having the best ground staff team around. You can't get better advert for a course than guests from other clubs.

Format of the day was, was teams of 4, best 2 scores count on each hole, and all 4 scores count on the 18th hole. Maximum handicap Males - 24. Maximum handicap Ladies - 36. Nearest the pins on the 5th, and 14thholes. There were some great prizes, a raffle, plus guess the total number of nr's on the day.

We are constantly asked, Why is it free ? Why do we do it ?

"The answer is pretty simple. As a members club, it's not all take. We like to give something back, and it's a great way of showcasing our fabulous course and clubhouse to non members for them to see what their missing by not being a member of Pontardawe Golf Club"

The highlight of the day for Pontardawe Golf Club was seeing so many members and guests enjoying themselves, on the course and in the clubhouse afterwards, along with all the positive comments received from them.

It just goes to show what a great set up we have in Pontardawe. When members and guests enjoy themselves on days like this, the finances take care of themselves.

As I said Another huge success story, both on and off the course.

Thanks go to our star chef, Graham Hurren and his catering team, who made sure all were well fed with good hearty meals in the restaurant. Whilst Bradley & Collette and the bar staff kept everyone's glasses full until late in the evening and thanks to all our members and guests who made this event a day to fondly remember.

The biggest thank you of all must go to committee member Conrad Dyment- Jones who worked tirelessly from 6.00am in the morning setting up the course with our ground staff and then running the whole event on his own, booking entrants in, organising the raffle, taking the food orders and then finalising and announcing the results at around 7.30pm in the evening. Without people like Conrad events like this would not be the success that they are.
