The Verdict !!
Have we lost the plot here at Pontardawe Golf Club ? ...Absolutely Not !!..
The FREE GOLF Open / Members and Guests Day competition on Sunday 30th August, was again an absolutely overwhelming success with entries from Pontardawe Golf Club members as well as large contingency of guests from a host of other golf clubs.
For the fourth year running, due to Pontardawe Golf Clubs continued success, we were able to host a FREE GOLF Open / Members and Guests Day, with all tee times completely booked from 6.45am until 3.30pm. Over 70 teams entered the event, that's over 280 golfers on the course, most of which came in the clubhouse afterwards and enjoyed the renown Pontardawe Golf Club hospitality, sampling our superb selection of beverages along with our chefs specialities.
The weather wasn't at it's kindest providing golfers with a cloudy, but warm day with the odd shower, luckily not to heavy. That didn't deter the entrants with a good showing of Pontardawe members along with guests from lots of other clubs. All our guests were really impressed with the set up and condition of the course and the welcome they received and were full of praise and compliments about Pontardawe Golf Club.
There were some
terrific scores returned and the format of the day was :-
Teams of 4, best 2 scores count on each hole, and all 4 scores count on the 18th hole.
Maximum handicap Males - 28. Maximum handicap Ladies - 36.
Three nearest the pins on the 2nd, 5th, and 14th holes
Longest drive on the 12th
Again there were some terrific prizes, a raffle, plus guess the total number of 5's on the day.
So have we lost the plot ?.... Far from it.....Then why do we do it ?......As we've previously stated
"Here at Pontardawe Golf Club its a members club, it's not all take. We like to give something back, and what a great way of showcasing our fabulous course and clubhouse to non members for them to see what their missing by not being a member of Pontardawe Golf Club"
The day was organized by Conrad Dyment-Jones who worked tirelessly throughout the day with the help of one or two committee members to ensure the event was a complete success. "Conrad's hard work ensured the day was an outstanding financial success showcasing our course and clubhouse, as well as a fantastic day of golf and entertainment"
The vice captain Eddy Morgan was put on the spot to open and assist with the presentation by the 2015 Pontardawe Golf Club Captain Meirion Davies.

Club Captain Meirion Davies closed proceedings by thanking all who played and entered teams in the event and all the sponsors for their competition prizes and raffle prizes. It seems that this part of a Pontardawe Captains speech doesn’t change due to all the great professional staff we have here at Pontardawe as again thanks were paid to Jamie Probert our head green keeper and his team for providing us with such a terrific course this year. The course was in immaculate condition, considering the weather, with some difficult pin positions keeping everybody thinking about their approach shots and putts. A big thank you to the bar staff Bradley and Collette and their team for keeping us well watered, and last but not least a huge thank you to our head chef Graham Hurren and his team for serving us with some mouth-watering meals.
