Jo Power Lady Captains Day
Jo Power Lady Captains Day
Tuesday 29th of May 2018 Lady Captains day…. What's more MY Lady Captains Day. Months of planning and preparation and the day was finally here. The Weather Gods had been listening to my daily prayer for blue sky and sunshine and on arriving at the club that is what awaited me. It was the one thing I had no control over, everything else was my responsibility and choice.
Club Captain Gary Jones , Club Captain's Assistant Carl Lewis and stalwart committee member Conrad Dyment-Jones were all there on our arrival ready and willing as was my Vice Captain Janet Francis.
Thanks to my Partner Mike had driven me up there and we all started to unload the car for the mornings events. By 9.00am we were already for the ladies arrival. Tea, coffee and biscuits were laid out as were the goodies for the ladies to take on the course.
The course looked in pristine condition and I was only sorry I would not be playing that day. By 10.15am the 34 ladies were headed out to the respective tees for the shotgun start to the 12 hole Comp.
Mike was dispatched with his camera to capture them all, Carl was driving the Buggy with the drinks aboard to keep all the ladies hydrated.
I commandeered the Wonderful Betti Wyn and Lynne to make the lunchtime rolls. By 1 o clock we were all waiting for them to come in. In they came with happy smiling laughing faces all declaring what a wonderful morning it had been.
Lunch eaten and off they went again, this time for the 9 hole comp, all starting from the 1sttee. Mike once again was dispatched with the camera and Carl with the water.Gary, Sam the barman.
and the club president Alun Evans and myself started setting up for the evening, Helium balloon filling caused a few nervous moments, but production line set up and all done quickly. The tables were set by Gary, Carl and Paula and the dressing of them finished off by myself. During all this at one point we saw Rosemary walking back to the tee and Mike running …yes I did say running down from the 1sttee to the fairway !!! no shouts of Help or Emergency so we carried on doing what we were doing. The significance of this will become clear later.
Evening arrived and 41 ladies sat down to a Carvery Meal provided by Lee and his staff. All the ladies agreed the meal was delicious.
Anne Evans collated the results and ssisted with the presentations

Each and everyone of them were given a roar of approval and applause which I’m sure would have been heard down in the village. However at one stage I thought I was going to have to call for smelling salts !!!!, never have I seen anyone so over come at winning than Rosemary was, she could neither breathe or speak at one point, shocked but happy she eventually came up to receive her prize. As she later told me, on teeing off on the 1stshe lost her ball, Mike had seen it land so he ran down to show her where it was … see picture of the said ball !! If Mike had not seen it land Rosemary would have played 3 off the tee and not won the Cup of which she is rightly so proud to have won.
The night continued after my short speech of thanks to everyone. By 11.30pm the lounge had reverted to its normal format with all tables cleared and all the laughing smiling faces had departed to their beds.
"For one year only I am captain of the ladies and I am both honoured and proud to be so. They are without doubt a diverse bunch, but a nicer bunch would be very hard to find. For all the good wishes, cards, gifts and thanks I have received in the last 24 hrs I thank you Ladies One and All, but you are the Stars not me, without you supporting the day it would not have taken place, all I did was set the scene for you all to shine"
