2014 Here we Come
"2014 Here we come ! A year to look forward to. If 2013 was anything to go by we're in for an absolute cracker of a year"

Firstly the club captain Alan Lewis and the committee would like to thank all the members for their support throughout 2013. I know the members would like to join me in thanking the captain, the committee, the steward and all the ground staff for all the tireless effort and work that has gone in to make Pontardawe Golf Club one of the most successful premiere golf clubs in South Wales.

I am sure that this year's club captain Paul Targett and his vice captain Meirion Davies will continue the forward momentum where Alan and his committee left off.

The ladies section has gone from strength to strength under the captaincy of Ann Moses and I am sure that this will continue when the new lady captain Anwen Davies comes into office.

The seniors section as always is a very popular section and again has a been very strong over the last year, with all their competitions being well attended.

The junior section has had a tremendous year with high numbers attending the very popular Monday junior nights. We have a lot of youngsters who are potential golfing stars and some have given superb accounts of themselves in prestigious competitions. Several juniors are even playing in senior competitions of white a yellow tees and are posting good scores. One or two of them are picking up first prizes in adult competitions and didly's. A big thank you to the members and committee who look after the junior section.

The Pontardawe first team qualified for the finals of the Welsh team championships and the club also hosted the prestigious Welsh Schools championships. The course itself has been in absolute prestine condition and without any doubt the finest course in South Wales. We've spent over £200,000 on new machinery, built new tee's, carried out extensive drainage work, re faced bunkers and built new buggy paths. Again a big thank you to Jamie Probert our head green keeper and his team. We've had a terrific golfing year with our weekend competition tee off times being fully booked.

Some outstanding scores have been posted in many competitions. In particular the 2013's winter league competitions probably had the highest entry numbers we have ever seen and has grown into one of the most enjoyable competitions we run, with great prizes on offer.

The charity days have been some of 2013's highlights and have all been booked to capacity. The support received for these charity days was unbelievable and the funds raised for the charities was phenomenal.

The bar and social side of the club was very well supported with all cabaret and dinner events being fully booked. The speakers evenings were as per usual, superb evenings with a list of outstanding celebrities entertaining a packed audience.

As you are reading this, you will obviously see the new website is up and running along with the members master scoreboard handicap section. The website content will continue to improve with time.

All in all, what a cracking year 2013 was and what a cracking year 2014 is going to be.
