Tony Jacklin CBE. Pontardawe Golf Clubs guest speaker Friday 21st February
Pontardawe Golf Club are extremely pleased to add Tony Jacklin CBE, to an impressive list of previous guest speakers, that have graced the clubhouse with their presence.
"The most successful Ryder Cup Captain of all time, Nobody has done more to raise the profile and change the landscape of golf in Europe and around the world than Tony Jacklin CBE."
In 1969, Tony Jacklin became the first British player to win " The Open Championship for 18 years, winning by two strokes at Royal Lytham and St. Annes. The following season he won his second major title, the U. S. Open by seven strokes on a windblown Hazeltine National Golf Club course.
However, Tony Jacklin may be best remembered for his involvement in the Ryder Cup. He was a playing member of the "Great Britain and Ireland" team in 1967, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1975 and 1977, and a member of the first European team in 1979. Tony Jacklin served as the non-playing captain of Europe in four consecutive Ryder Cups from 1983 to 1989.
There's a lot more I can say, but I am sure it will be a terrific evening hearing all about Tony's triumphs and career highlights, which are second to no golfer.
I've got to say I can't wait !
